“Learning initial level Spanish from Señor Akerman was one of the most intellectually stimulating experiences of my life. Expertly meshing his didactic methods with his world-renowned artistic genius, he employed innovative techniques in imparting instruction to a class of absolute novices. After providing introduction to the basic structure of the Spanish language, he used song and verse to clarify the linkages between words and grammar in the minds of his students. This method rendered the two month long course at the Alliance Française d'Islamabad not just an excellent learning activity, but also a rich insight into Spanish culture and heritage. Also, his excellent command over the English language gave him the uncanny ability to use this language to great effect in the instruction of Spanish to a Pakistani audience already accustomed to English as a second language.
